Six area farms received the Hoosier Homestead Award at the Indiana State Fair Wednesday.

The award honors families that have made “significant contributions” to Indiana agriculture and farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for a century or more.

The list of 2019 honorees included two farms in Elkhart County, another pair in Marshall County, and one each in Steuben and Lagrange Counties.

State Senator Dennis Kruse says the program honors “a certain type of lifestyle and serious commitment to the process.”
