The boat fire in California that killed 34 people has unfortunately reached all the way out to Michiana. One of the victims in the Santa Barbara diving boat fire was a Michiana native that grew up in Dowagiac.

42 year old Lisa Fielder was the only child of Nancy Fielder who still lives in the area. Nancy Fielder told the publication “The Leader” that Lisa was an active diver that had moved out to the area some time ago.

She said her only salvation is knowing that her daughter was doing what she loved before she died. You can read more about Fielder and the incident here with our partners at ABC 57 News.
