Man found dead at Marine St. & Indiana Ave. in South Bend identified

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit was called to the area of Marine Avenue and  Indiana Street in South Bend.

The call came in around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sep. 29, after a passerby spotted a male lying down in the street.

95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57 spoke to a relative of the victim who said the 27-year-old man was pronounced dead.

The man was later identified by authorities as Trey Devante Martinez, 27.

Metro Homicide investigators have been interviewing witnesses.

There was no immediate word on how the victim died or whether there are any suspects or arrests.

An autopsy is expected to happen on Monday to officially determine the cause of death.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit released the following information about the case:

South Bend Police Department officers (SBPD) were dispatched to the area of Marine Street and Indiana Avenue shortly after 7:30 a.m. this morning in reference to a man found lying in the street. He was found deceased at the scene, and the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit (CMHU) was activated, pre protocol, due to the suspicious nature of his injuries.  He has been positively identified as Trey Devante Martinez, 27 years old, of South Bend.

An autopsy has been scheduled for noon tomorrow, September 30th, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for Mr. Martinez.

This remains an active and ongoing CMHU investigation. Investigators have interviewed several witnesses from the neighborhood and continue to follow up on leads.
