Starting Tuesday, Oct. 1, the City of South Bend will begin picking up debris for residents that sustained tree damage from this weekend’s storms.

Crews will make sweeps throughout the city to collect tree and limb debris of any size. Tree and limb debris should be placed at the curb away from cars, trash bins, power lines or any other obstructions. Residents do not need to call 311 to request a pickup. Saturday, Oct. 5 is the last day that residents can put out tree debris for this special pickup.

For the removal of other large debris and household items, residents can schedule an extra pickup by calling 311 or filling out an online form at southbendin.gov/extrapickup. Residents are allowed one extra trash pickup per month for up to one cubic yard.

Any tree debris set out after Saturday, Oct. 5 will not be collected unless the resident calls 311 to schedule a yard waste extra pickup and follows the extra pickup guidelines for branches. To do so, branches must be cut down to four feet or shorter, be no more than four inches in diameter and secured with twine into manageable bundles.

Tree debris can also be taken to the City’s Organic Resources facility, located at 4340 Trade Drive between 8:00 am to 4:00 p.m. The fee to drop off tree debris has been waived through Friday, OcT. 4 for city residents.
