St. Joseph County says they will NOT echo the new policy regarding prosecution of small amounts of marijuana in Indianapolis.

Acting Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said Monday that they will no longer pursue possession cases of an ounce or less against adults. St. Joe County Prosecutor Ken Cotter tells WNDU he respects the decision that was made downstate, but says his job is to enforce the laws, not write them.

Cotter said that as long as he has been a prosecutor, he has put hardly anyone in jail merely for having marijuana. He said his office is focused on getting individuals treatment rather than putting them in jail.
