Former Cubs catcher David Ross is taking over as manager of the team.

ESPN reported Wednesday that Ross will be the person hired to take over for Joe Maddon. He won the spot over bench coach Mark Loretta, first base coach Will Venable and others.

His predecessor was a three-time Manager of the Year who guided the team to their first World Series victory in more than a century.
Ross was a catcher with the team in 2015 and 2016.
