Next fall, residents will need to present a REAL ID-compliant document to fly within the US.
The change is under federal law, and involves the ability to enter certain federal facilities. REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and ID cards are marked with a gold circle with a star inside. The enhanced documents will feature the mark, as will valid US passports and trusted traveler cards issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
The change goes into effect on October 1 of 2020.

I’m planning to stay in the USA and drive where ever I need to go.
I have a Passport and a Passport I.D. Card that are valid for the next 4 yrs, can I use the passport I.D. Card for domestic travel without having to get a Federal Real I.D. Card?
Yes, that Passport ID is a REAL-ID compliant document. I’ve got one too and would recommend that everyone get one.
That star looks ominous. So now we can’t even fly in our own country? That’s crazy.
