Michigan’s governor has signed a bill that would ban the sale of an over-the-counter cough suppressant to minors without a prescription.
It’s a restriction on an ingredient called DXM that has been abused by teenagers looking for a hallucinogenic high.
The bill signed by Governor Whitmer on Thursday states that customers will be asked for an ID unless they are at least 25 years old.
Anyone who sells products containing the substance to customers 18 and under will face civil fines.
