Thanksgiving travel year expected to be one of the biggest in 20 years

AAA is forecasting that more than 55 million travelers will be heading out for the Thanksgiving holiday this year.

Their numbers, released late last week, suggest that 49 million Americans will travel by car more than 50 miles.

It’s 1.6 million more than last year, making 2019 second only to 2005 if the prediction proves to be accurate. That’s since AAA began tracking holiday travel trends more closely in 2000.

GasBuddy says those on the road will pay a national average of $2.56 per gallon at the pump, and the worst day to be on major roadways will be the day before Thanksgiving.

Nearly 4 and a half million Americans are expected to travel by air for the holiday.
