Northern Indiana Public Service Company LLC, or NIPSCO, has released its electric rates for 2020.

On average, electric customers will see an increase of approximately $6 per month, which is five dollars less than the original $11 proposal.

The increase will be phased-in in two steps: first, on January 1, 2020, then again on March 1.

The bill change will also include a decrease in the monthly customer charge, which is the flat monthly cost associated with serving customers regardless of their usage. Charges will drop from $14 per month to $13.50.

NIPSO last changed its base electric rates in 2016.

“Providing affordable and reliable energy is essential,” said NIPSCO president Violet Sistovaris. “New rates are anticipated to remain in line with the national average as we focus on continuing to better serve customers now and into the future.”
