Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill has joined the nation’s 55 other Attorneys General in calling on Congress to permanently classify fentanyl-related drugs as Schedule 1 drugs.

Those are drugs that have no currently accepted medical use and have a high abuse potential.

Hill says the FIGHT Fentanyl Act allows for law enforcement to do their jobs and continue to take action against those who distribute the lethal drug.

The current scheduling order is set to expire in February.

2017 alone saw 72 thousand drug-related deaths, with around 40 percent of those related to fentanyl.
