Free Christmas tree disposal begins in South Bend Thursday

Do you need to dispose of your Christmas tree?

The City of South Bend is offering free Christmas tree disposal for residents within city limits this Thursday, January 2 through Thursday, January 30. Trees will be collected on the same day as residents’ usual trash pickup.

Residents are simply asked to do the following:

  • Place trees to the curb by 6 a.m. on the day of trash pickup. Trees should not be placed in the street or alley, or behind any cars.
  • Remove all lights, ornaments, wraps, metals, etc. from the tree prior to pickup.

South Bend residents must schedule their tree pickup ahead of time by calling 311 or by submitting an online request at southbendin.gov/treepickup.

The City warns residents that free pickup only includes the removal of one tree per household, and additional trees will be billed at $10 per tree.

After January 30, any Christmas tree pickups scheduled will be used as the residents’ free monthly yard waste extra pickup.
