Proposed New Carlisle Industrial Park hits a roadblock

A unanimous vote has stopped a project that would have created an industrial park in New Carlisle.

The Town Council voted 5-0 to ask St. Joseph County Officials to stop the current project, which would convert thousands of acres of farm land into the proposed Indiana Enterprise Center, or IEC.

The council requests that no work continue until the project can meet environmental concerns and give the public more of a voice. Residents and community leaders have spoken out against the IEC for months, seeking to protect farmland and water resources.

The St. Joseph County Council will have the final say.
