Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered changes to child care licensing in Michigan, in order to help health care providers and first responders better cope with the demands of battling the coronavirus.
While there are some who can work from home, others have to go into work — and that can create child care challenges.
In an interview with Michigan’s NPR, Whitmer detailed the changes outlined in her executive order. They include the establishment of “disaster relief child care centers,” changes in the processes by which licenses are granted, and more.
Whitmer also addressed the changing shape of Michigan’s childcare industry, and long-range concerns.
