UPDATE: Around 300 shots fired during weekend according to South Bend Police

UPDATE: On Monday, June 8, South Bend Police reported around 300 shots were fired during the time span of the entire weekend, Friday – Sunday.

ORIGINAL STORY: It’s been a busy weekend for South Bend Police officers.

In less than 30 hours, 5 people, including a 13-year-old, were shot and officers responded to at least 169 shots fired.

Investigators are pleading with the public to come forward with any information. Anybody can submit an anonymous tip by calling Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-

Below is a rundown of the shootings that have taken place since Friday, June 5:

FRIDAY MORNING AROUND 12:30 AM
Officers responded to the 2000 block of W. Linden, 2300 block of W. Linden, 300 block of N. Johnson, 200 block of N. Jackson, 200 block on N. College, 1700 block of W. Florence, 500 block of N. College, 1300 block of W. Fassnacht, 1400 block of W. Fassnacht and 1300 block of Linden for shots fired. In all, evidence confirmed 71 shots were fired, there could be more. Preliminary reports indicate that vehicles were driving in these locations with occupant(s) shooting at each other. One vehicle is described as a white Chrysler, possibly a 300. The other is described as a black, possibly Nissan Maxima or similar. One of the cars has headlights with a “blue haze”.

FRIDAY MORNING AROUND 2:30 AM
Officers were called to Memorial Hospital after someone walked in with a gunshot wound. The victim told police they were in the 2200 block of S. Franklin Street when shot.
Evidence confirms at least 1 shot was fired.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON JUST AFTER 2:00 PM
Officers were called to the 1700 block of Kemble Avenue for shots fired. When officers arrived, they found a 13-year-old had been shot. The teen was taken to Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injures. Evidence confirmed at least 5 shots were fired, there could be more.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON AROUND 5:00 PM
Officers responded to the 1800 block of Webster after hearing shots fired. When they arrived, witnesses confirmed hearing the shots. No injuries were reported. Evidence confirmed at least 2 shots were fired, there could be more.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON AROUND 5:30 PM
Officers were called to the area of Napier Street and Chestnut Street for reports of shots fired. While en-route, dispatch stated a dog had been shot and killed. Dispatch then advised of a shooting victim in the 1400 block of W. Dubail Street. Officers made contact with the victim who was taken to Memorial Hospital with non-life-threating injuries.
Witness statements and evidence show the victim was shot on Chestnut Street and made his way to Dubail Street. Evidence confirmed at least 4 shots were fired, there could be more.

FRIDAY NIGHT TO SATURDAY MORNING
Between 11 p.m. Friday night and 2:20 a.m. Saturday Morning, officers were called to the area of Olive Street and Bertrand Street three different times for reports of shots fired. Reports indicate 54 rounds were fired and dozens of cars were seen in the area. When officers arrived, the cars dispersed. No injuries were reported.

SATURDAY MORNING AROUND 2:20 AM
Officers were called to the 1000 block of W. Kinyon Street for reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they learned a residence had been struck but no injuries were reported.
Evidence confirmed at least 8 shots were fired, there could be more.

SATURDAY MORNING AROUND 4:00 AM
Officers responded to the area of McKinley and Ironwood after hearing shots fired. No injuries were reported. Evidence confirmed at least 4 shots were fired, there could be more.

SATURDAY MORNING JUST AFTER 5:30 AM
Officers were called to the area of Olive Street and Bertrand Street for the fourth time for shots fired. When officers arrived, they learned two victims self-transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injures. Evidence shows at least 74 casings were collected, there could be more.

All these cases remain under investigation.

  1. Just as we all knew all along…”Black Lives” don’t really matter to black people. Just supposed to matter to everyone else when they decide it should and it is a good time politically…Take care of your genicide before you blame everyone else on everything that happens to your race! Point of fact…More white people have been killed by police than black people in this country in recent years. Where are the protests for all the black males killed every weekend in chicago and right here in South Bend? That won’t happen because its black people killing black people…Where is the logic?
