Approximately 7,000 I&M customers still without power Wednesday

About 7,000 Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) customers are still without power after Tuesday night’s storms.

Half of those are in the South Bend/Elkhart area and most of the remainder are in southwest Michigan.

I&M crews report finding a number of limbs and branches on lines, along with damaged equipment.

The company reports all customers should have their power restored by 11 p.m. Wednesday, though additional storms today may extend the timeline.

The outage numbers are as follows:

Indiana:

  • Fort Wayne area: 90
  • Muncie/Marion area: less than 5
  • South Bend/Elkhart area: 3,550

Michigan:

  • Benton Harbor area: 1,650
  • Buchanan area: 1,300
  • Three Rivers area: 1985
