One person was killed in a shooting in South Bend.
Officers with the South Bend Police Department were called around 3:50 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, to Beacon Heights Apartments in the 3700 block of Curtiss Drive North on the report of a possible shooting.
On arrival, police found a male juvenile on the ground suffering gunshot wound injuries.
South Bend Police tweeted: “When officers arrived at the scene, they found 50-70 people, mostly late teens in the parking lot.
After locating the gunshot victim, they tried to perform CPR but were inhibited because they were continually interrupted by the highly intoxicated and unruly crowd including fights breaking out.
Paramedics were hindered entering the location and had to be escorted in by officers.
We used a chemical irritant in order to get people back so we and medics could tend to the victim.“
The victim was taken to the hospital where he died.
Potential witnesses at the scene of this incident have not been forthcoming with
information about this incident.
As of 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, there was no word of any suspects, arrests or the circumstances that led to the shooting.
The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.
Anybody with information is asked to contact Metro Homicide at 574-235-5009 or Michiana Crime Stoppers at 288-STOP.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

If I was a cop I wouldn’t answer any calls in the kill zones of South Bend . Why put your life on the line for people who want to kill each other and and have the council tell tell you You are not worthy of a raise .
South Bend need a 10’ fence around it .
Toss Eric Holders guns over it , then arrest the last man standing .
I agree with Larry. Let the purge continue. Leave the dead bodies lying around. Let the so called “comminty” deal with it. No need to bother investigations. Keep cops and detective working in neighborhoods that give a crap. 911 calls from these thug neighborhoods should be redirected to the time and temp recording.
If I was a cop I wouldn’t be a cop anymore. It’s time to give the “urban” voters the police free utopia they have been clamoring for.
I’d also like to ban the county and state police from entering the SB city limits. Let the South Bend democrats sort it out “Lord of the Flies” style. All the complaints about “police brutality” would fade quickly in the face of “no-police brutality”.
