It was a busy start to the weekend for police and emergency crews in Elkhart County who were called to the scene of at least two deadly crashes.

One of the collisions happened when the driver of an RV traveling westbound on Highway 6 toward County Road 37 crashed into the back of another vehicle also heading westbound that was stopped at the intersection.

The driver of the RV tried to swerve, but was traveling too fast. The driver of the vehicle that was stopped, Travis Newcomer, 30, of Ligonier, was killed.

The driver that rear-ended the victims, a 54-Fort Wayne man, was taken to the hospital for blood to be drawn.

In the second crash, which happened on Friday, June 19, a vehicle was driving northeast on County Road 22 south of County Road 26 when it left the roadway and struck a street sign and a tree.

The driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has been identified as Charles Wysong, 56, of Middlebury and the passenger has been identified as Goldie Randolph, 94.

Both crashes are still under investigation.
