WASHINGTON, D.C.–An actual in-person Republican convention could happen if people do it the right way, says Sen. Mike Braun, who says he will likely attend if his schedule permits.

“If you’re willing to do that, have an inside convention with precautions, make sure the ventilation is working the way it should, I think it’s doable,” said Braun.

The convention, which is scheduled for Aug. 24 to 27. It was moved from Charlotte to Jacksonville because the governor of North Carolina couldn’t guarantee the convention would be a go, if coronavirus restrictions became tighter.

“The idea of shutting down our economies the way we did, one size fits all, without trying to do two things at once, I was against that from the beginning,” he said.

Braun said the proper precautions must be observed by everyone who attends.

“We’ll have to have that flexibility while adhering to the things we all need to do,” he said. “I think that for Jacksonville, if they do it correctly, it should be a good example of how maybe we could get back to having larger crowds in venues.”
