Elkhart begins third phase of Water Meter Replacement Program

(Photo supplied/City of Elkhart)

The City of Elkhart is set to begin the third phase of its Water Meter Replacement Program.

During this process, old water meters will be replaced with new ones equipped with an integrated radio transmitter at no cost to customers.

Elkhart residents can call Vanguard representatives to schedule an appointment at (574) 607-8120. During set appointment times, here’s what residents can expect:

  • Meter installers will have Vanguard logos on their trucks and uniforms, and will carry photo identification badges.
  • The Vanguard representative will need to enter the home to complete the installation. As a result, someone over the age of 18 will need to be present during the replacement of the meter.
  • In most cases, the replacement will take less than one hour.
  • There will be a brief service interruption during the installation of the new meter.
  • For the customer’s protection, a photograph will be taken prior to and immediately following the installation of the new water meter.
