Spike in COVID-19 cases among Notre Dame students

The University of Notre Dame has reported 58 confirmed COVID-19 cases since students returned to the campus in early August.

More than a quarter of the university’s confirmed cases since Aug. 3 came on Sunday, a day that saw a 50 percent positive rate of tests.

At least two off-campus parties have been identified as likely sources of the increase, according to school officials.

Notre Dame Public Affairs says the school is prepared to discipline or suspend the hosts of such parties.

A number of Notre Dame students say they are struggling to get tested on campus.

WSBT reports one student said they spent hours with two others who later tested positive, and was denied a test. Another woke up Thursday with symptoms and called repeatedly without any response.
