The USDA says the summer meal program for school students will continue through the end of 2020, and it could be extended further in the future.
Monday’s announcement from U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue states that the programs can continue operating through as late as December 31, as funding permits.
This allows summer meal program operators to continue serving free meals to children, ensuring they have access to nutritious food as the economy continues to recover from the pandemic.
Congressman Fred Upton was quick to call this “really good news” for students in Southwest Michigan.
