Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, gatherings have become greatly restricted. Small events can be safe in some scenarios when social distancing is possible, but be sure to bring your mask and maybe a bottle of hand sanitizer.

For those looking to completely avoid in-person public gathers, modern technology has a solution for those still in need of well-populated events. Of course, by now most people have experienced Zoom meetings or Google Hangouts for work meetings or casual catchups with friends, but more structured virtual events are also possible.

If you’re looking for something fun to do with friends at a safe social distance, here are a couple of upcoming events for Michiana residents to attend with friends that are hosted in either an in-person or virtual capacity.

Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services Trivia Night

Do you love trivia but also want to be safe during the pandemic?

Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, a division of REAL Services Trivia Night is put on annually, usually around Halloween, which is why many attendees wear costumes. All the proceeds from the event go to Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana.

While it’s unfortunate the event will not be able to take place in-person this year, REAL Services partnered with TriviaHub, which will allow the organization to host the event virtually at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Because the event is virtual, it comes with the added benefit of allowing you to partner with family and friends from around the United States.

“It doesn’t matter where your teammates live because the event is virtual,” said Allen Holt, Manager of Mission Advancement at REAL Services. “It is going to be a fun night for everyone. And it is wonderful to know that your playing trivia for a cause that will support programs, education and services for caregivers.”

The Virtual Trivia Night costs $25 per person to attend, with each attendee signing up individually. Teams will consist of eight people, but anyone interested in playing who doesn’t belong to a full team can still sign up and then be assigned to a team at random.

This yearly gathering is kid-friendly and includes live music, photo opportunities, the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony led by Santa Claus, fireworks, free cookie decorating and more.

The event is free and takes place in a large, outdoor gathering space that should allow for social distancing.
