Man arrested for OWI after leaving vehicle on train tracks

A 28-year-old Illinois man was arrested in Indiana Sunday for driving while intoxicated.

Police found him walking away from his car, which was hit by an oncoming train when he left it on the tracks. Schererville police say the man, who has not been identified, had a breath alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.

He told police his car got stuck after he got lost trying to find his way back to Illinois.

The man has been charged with three OWIs, failure of duty and criminal trespassing.

There were no injuries reported.
