Hunters on private property discovered a crashed vehicle in a ditch in St. Joseph County Tuesday morning.

The car was found off Dragoon Trail near Hilltop Farms.

The driver and passenger in the car were both trapped and were transported to a hospital. The occupants were unsure how long they’d been in the car, but police believe it was less than 24 hours, despite early speculation that it had been longer.

The property owner told St. Joseph County Police that the vehicle most likely entered the property after dark on Monday and missed a curve while driving down the dirt lane. The investigation is ongoing.
