Michigan unemployment rate rises in December

Michigan’s unemployment rate went up last month. According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose by five-tenths of a percentage point in December to 7.5%.

Total employment fell sharply by 154,000 over the month, while unemployment edged up by 14,000. Michigan’s workforce decreased significantly by 141,000 in December.

The Michigan December jobless rate was 0.8% above the national rate.
