One person was killed in a semi crash on the Toll Road in LaGrange County. THe crash happened on Thursday evening, Feb. 4, at at the 129 mile marker near Howe, and resulted int he closure of both the eastbound and westbound lanes.

The chemical spill also resulted in a brief evacuation of the immediate area, though that has been lifted.

The driver of the semi was killed.

The investigation and cleanup of the spill lasted well into the early morning hours.

The Indiana State Police released the following information:

1) The evacuation of the immediate area around the crash site has ceased.  

2) Hazardous material crews are currently assessing the area of spill for cleanup. 

3) The current estimate for clean up and continued road closure is four to six hours. 

 ISP has confirmed that the driver of the semi-tractor trailer is deceased, however identification of the driver is not yet available. 

The Indiana State Police is currently on scene investigating a single vehicle semi tractor trailer crash on the I-80/90 Toll Road at the 129.5mm, near Howe, IN. This semi-crash has required that both eastbound and westbound lanes of traffic to be shut down at the 129.5mm, which is located 8 miles east of SR9, and 15 miles west of Interstate 69. 

* All traffic is currently be diverted off of the I-80/90 Toll Road at two locations:  Eastbound traffic will be diverted at the 121mm exit (Indiana State Road 9), and all westbound traffic will be diverted off at the 144mm exit  (I-69).   

**Also as a result of this crash, a chemical spill of a hazardous chemical has occurred,  which is also requiring an evacuation of the immediate area.  LaGrange County Fire Department personnel are currently on scene managing the hazmat situation and coordinating the evacuation effort.  RMS emergency environmental clean up crews are in route to handle the chemical spill clean up.
