Upton seeks to preserve MSA status for Niles-Benton Harbor metro

Congressman Fred Upton and four other Michigan representatives are asking President Biden to not change the population requirement for metropolitan statistical areas.

WSJM reports that a proposed change from 50,000 residents to 100,000 to qualify would change six MSAs in the state to ‘micropolitan’ areas. This includes the Niles-Benton Harbor MSA.

Upton notes that this would mean a loss of federal dollars that promote investment and create jobs.

Living in a small village of southwest Michigan as I do, observing these small to large cities constantly getting federal, state and county aide is proof enough of the corruption that exists in all government levels. Why should our government at any level have any funds to hand out? It means that we’re being overtaxed. If small villages to small towns are expected to live within their budget and means then these cities should be as well. Get rid of these government handouts all together!!!
