Human remains that were found last year in North Liberty have been identified.

It was back on Saturday, Nov. 28, that a citizen discovered skeletal remains along a creek bed located in the 24000 block of Stanton Road in North Liberty and contacted the St. Joseph County Police Department.

A representative of the St. Joseph County Coroners Office and the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit were called to the scene.

Now, the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit, along with a representative of the St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office met with family members to inform them that Metro Homicide investigators, with the assistance of staff at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine in Kalamazoo, have positively identified the skeletal remains to be Rachel Zentz, 43, formerly of LaPaz.

The cause and manner of her death has been ruled as undetermined.

Anybody with information regarding the investigation should contact Michiana Crime Stoppers at 288-STOP or the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit at 574-235-5009.
