Police: Non-life-threatening injuries, now, for 5-year-old boy shot in chest

The 5-year-old boy who was shot in the chest is now said to have non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting happened late Tuesday morning, April 27, in the 1300 block of Wildflower at a mobile home park in Elkhart.

Investigators say the boy received the gunshot when children located a firearm in their residence and it went off while they were handling it.

The child was first taken to Memorial Hospital, but has since been flown to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
