U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Indianapolis “intercepted” a package that contained fake sports championship rings.

On May 3, inspectors noticed a box that had some irregularities in the packaging. Inside, they found 330 fake World Series, Super Bowl, NBA and college football championship rings. Some of the teams included were the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals.

The rings were sent to an import specialist, who said the rings were packaged poorly and had a plastic feel to the touch. If they were real, the rings would’ve have been worth close to $500,000.

“Shipments like these prey on the many sports fans across the nation who may be duped into paying high prices for garbage,” said Kerry Carter, Acting Port Director-Indianapolis. “I’m extremely proud of these officers’ determination in stopping illicit shipments, and our commitment to protecting the American economy.”

The CBP says they’re seeing more and more criminals trying to prey on diehard fans, as they return to sports venues.
