Michigan lawmakers are hoping to boost law enforcement with extra funding

Republicans in the Michigan House is proposing a spending package to help recruit and retain police officers in the state.

Lawmakers in the GOP-led House proposes adding $80 million for law enforcement to a budget bill, which includes $47 million to help recruit and retain police officers.

Incentives include signing bonuses, tuition assistance for police academies, and stipends during training at a time when the profession has been hit with a number of challenges.

The funding also offers incentives for the use of body cameras and community policing.
