An Elkhart woman accused of leaving her 3-month-old baby in a hot car, last summer, will likely avoid jail time.

Samantha Ferrel entered into a pre-trial diversion program late last year.

Police say the interior temperature of the car was 115 degrees. By the time the medics got there, the baby’s skin was red and the child was overheated.

The baby since has recovered.

Ferrel was in court this week. Once she fulfills the terms of her agreement, the case will be dismissed.
