Man, 41, killed in shooting at Elwood Ave. & Olive St. in South Bend

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating a deadly shooting at the intersection of Elwood Avenue and Olive Street in South Bend.

Officers were called to the scene near the Olive Expo convenience store around 5 a.m. on Sunday, June 20.

One person was killed by the apparent gunfire. The victim was identified as Charles Edwards, 41.

There was no information about what led to the shooting or any suspects or arrests.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit released the following information:

(This morning at approximately 5:00 am), a shooting was reported near the intersection of Olive and Elwood in South Bend. One person was killed by apparent gunfire. The family has been notified, and the name of the victim is Charles Edwards, 41. CMHU has mobilized all of our resources and appreciates all the assistance of our law enforcement partners from the Saint Joseph County Police, Mishawaka Police and South Bend Police departments.

The shooting at Elwood and Olive is one of two shooting investigations Metro Homicide was leading on Sunday. The other shooting, said to be unrelated, took place around 3 a.m. at Heritage Square in Granger.
