Around 27,000 Indiana Michigan Power customers lost electricity when strong to severe storms blew through Michiana and downed power lines, tree limbs and tree branches on Sunday evening and early Monday morning.
There was no immediate word from the utility regarding restoration times. For some, it might be the second time in the past three days they’ve lost power. More than 8,000 I&M customers lost power on Friday morning when strong storms moved through the area.
The early round of storms that hit Michiana around 1 a.m. on Monday resulted in the National Weather Service issuing Tornado Warnings for portions of LaPorte, Starke, Berrien and Cass Counties and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties.
