Police in Dowagiac have arrested a 37-year-old man from Decatur after they say he fled from the scene of a crash.

It happened early Tuesday, Aug. 10, on West High Street near South Lowe Street.

Police arrived to find a vehicle on its side with two people stuck inside.

The investigation revealed the suspect vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and passed the slower vehicle — and struck it as it did so.

This caused the slower vehicle to flip and hit a power pole. Police found the driver a few blocks away.

Both people in the vehicle that was hit had to be extricated, but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
