Michigan man sentenced for a South Bend shooting

A Michigan man was sentenced for his involvement in a South Bend shooting.

James Smith is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and criminal recklessness.

Back on February 21 that Smith reportedly got into an altercation with three men at a South Bend bar.

Smith reportedly hit one of the men and then left in a van with his girlfriend.

The three men then followed Smith in a separate vehicle.

According to reports, Smith was seen jumping out of the van and running into a house on Roosevelt street while his girlfriend continued driving into a nearby parking lot.

The three men stopped behind their van, before seeing Smith walk up from behind with a gun.

Smith opened fire on the men.

One suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was taken to the hospital.

Police obtained a search warrant of the home where they found a riffle hidden upstairs. The riffle matched the shell casing found at the scene.
