Male body found in debris after house fire on Kern Road

A male body was found in the debris of a home destroyed by fire.

Fire crews and police were called around 2 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, to the 22000 block of Kern Road in St. Joseph County on reports of an explosion and fire.

Crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed with flames.

County Police were provided names and phone numbers of family members who might have been in the home. Police were able to contact family members and learned that the location of male resident of home was unknown.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. fire investigators located a male body in the debris of the home.

After talking to the family members County Police believe the explosion and fire were possibly set intentionally, but have not confirmed this.

At this time county police and fire investigators have not identified the body nor have not determined an official cause of the fire.
