Valparaiso University closing its Confucius Institute amid investigation

Valparaiso University is closing the doors of its Confucius Institute.

The school said it will end the program, which promotes Chinese music, March 1.

University President Jose Padilla says federal law prohibits the Pentagon from funding research at universities with a Confucius Institute, and another bill would restrict U.S. Education Department Funding.

Padilla says the closing is not related to an investigation opened by Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, who suggested the partnership might be promoting communism.
