Police in Elkhart County are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist with a possible broken back. The collision happened just after 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, at Old U.S. 33 and Tower Road.
Investigators say the driver was traveling east on Old U.S. 33 west of Tower Road. The cyclist, a 35-year-old Elkhart man, was also traveling east on Old U.S. 33 when the front passenger side collided with the cyclist’s rear tire.
The driver of the vehicle took off from the scene.
The cyclist was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital for a possible broken back, broken pelvis, and a laceration to his head.
There was no description of the driver or the vehicle involved.
