The St. Joseph County Commissioners have unanimously voted to veto a 2022 budget proposal.

The budget would have established new salaries for county employees. The South Bend Tribune reports that the votes from the three Republican commissioners came a week after the Democratic-led council approved the bill on a party-line vote.

The Democrats accused Republicans of partisan gamesmanship for suddenly changing their mind after months of supporting the pay raises.

According to state law, the municipal budget has to be passed by November 1.
