Coroner: Rolling Prairie woman, 21, likely died due to hypothermia after crash

A 21-year-old woman is believed to have died due to hypothermia after a crash.

It was just after 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, when St. Joseph County Police were called to Strawberry and Hurd Roads on the report of a woman’s body laying near the roadway.

Once there, officers and medics found Alexis Piotrowicz of Rolling Prairie dead at the scene.

They also found her vehicle on its roof in a water-filled ditch about 100 yards away.

Her purse and phone were found in the water, inside the vehicle. Police investigators later learned that Piotrowicz was last seen leaving Fish Lake around 11 p.m. on Friday.

The county coroner made the preliminary determination that she died from hypothermia after the crash.
