You would probably want to make sure that if your child were in an in-home daycare that no one in the house would be a convicted felon. A bill that passed a Senate panel Monday at the Statehouse would make sure of that.
The bill, which advanced in the Senate Monday morning, would require that for anyone to operate an in-home child care service, like an in-home daycare, all members of the household must not have had a felony conviction, or certain misdemeanor convictions.
The bill is part of a larger measure that deals with mental health.
“I agree with having a member of the household that’s convicted that there should be something happening,” said Sen. J.D. Ford, a Democrat. “But, I’m just wanting to make sure that we’re not just doing it without providing some sort of due process for the person that holds the license.”
Ford, and everyone else on the panel, gave the bill their approval. It must now pass the Senate, and then the House again to become law.
