Warmer temperatures coming in the middle of the week to all of Indiana

All of Indiana will be getting temperatures that warm up by the middle of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

On Wednesday, we’ll see highs  in the 50s,” said Jason Puma, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Puma says, however, that another system moves in during the middle of the week.

“That’s going to bring us some rain showers for Wednesday night into Thursday along with a cold front. That will drop temperatures to around the freezing mark for Friday and Saturday. Snow chances will be more likely across the north and northwestern parts of Indiana during the middle of the week,” said Puma.

Puma thinks the system could start out with freezing precipitation before it turns to snow in the northern/northwestern parts of the state.

“We’ll probably see better chances of snow for Thursday and Thursday night for the rest of the state as that cold air starts to arrive,” said Puma.

When there are abrupt changes in the temperature, Puma says it is due to where the front originates. If it starts near the Gulf of Mexico and moves north, that brings the warmer air.

If it starts around Canada, then that means colder air is coming. Indiana is getting fronts from both parts of the country this week, which is why the temperature change is happening.
