Man with warrants accused of OWI

A man with outstanding warrants was arrested Monday accused of OWI.

Elkhart Police say and officer was stopped at the intersection of Ashland and West Indiana Avenues shortly after 4:30 p.m. when he saw the driver disregard a stop sign at Chester Avenue. The officer followed the vehicle, which blew through another stop sign turning onto Prairie Street.

The pursuit ended in the 700 block of Hiawatha Drive and the driver, 51 year-old Dennis Gills of Elkhart, attempted to escape on foot before he was caught by a K9.

A passenger also exited the vehicle.

Gills faces several charges, his passenger was not charged.
