Traffic stop-turned police pursuit in Sturgis leaves one arrested

A person with several outstanding warrants was arrested after a traffic stop-turned police pursuit in Sturgis.

The traffic stop happened early Sunday night near West Street and North Centerville Road.

Officers tried to stop a vehicle they believe was connected to a missing juvenile.

Officials with the Sturgis Department of Public Safety say a women got out of the stopped vehicle and the driver took off.

The car chase ended when the suspect smashed into a police car, resulting in minor injuries to an officer.

The driver then took off on foot, but was eventually caught, arrested, and charged with fleeing, resisting and obstructing law enforcement.
