Hoosier reactions from the invasion of Ukraine include 3rd District Representative Jackie Walorski.

Walorski said Thursday that “Putin must be held accountable” and added “the American people stand with Ukrainians in their fight to defend their freedom.”

5th District Congresswoman Victoria Spartz released a statement Thursday “as a Ukrainian-born American” that expressed her disappointment with the Biden administration’s strategy. She pointed to a what she called “a lack of leadership” on multiple fronts that puts the U.S. and its allies in danger.

Senator Mike Braun said on Thursday that he had hoped the administration would proactively shut down Russian energy assets, and called for Putin to be punished with severe economic consequences. Braun hoped independent American energy production would be unleashed, and said the nation must avoid endangering U.S. troops by involving them further in the situation.

Notre Dame President The Reverend John Jenkins issued a statement recalling his 2019 to Ukraine, where he delivered remarks about the challenges in a society there that had been traumatized by war. He says “the former oppressors of Ukraine are now known by another name and are waging war under a different flag.”
