The Michigan Supreme Court is weighing whether the state’s civil-rights law guarantees broad anti-discrimination protections for gay and transgender Michiganders.

State Attorney General Dana Nessel appeared in person before the court last week to defend the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, which issued a statement that referenced an earlier Civil Rights Act protecting those residents from discrimination through the prohibition of sex-based bias.

Bridge Michigan reports that a pair of companies in the state are accused of discrimination and have sued the state, citing “sincerely held religious beliefs” and arguing that the Commission usurped legislative authority by reinterpreting existing law.

A number of outside interests are following the situation as it unfolds.

If a man comes in to an interview and declares that he is the King of England, you’re allowed to not hire him based on his failed grasp of reality. If a man comes in and claims that he is a woman, you are forced to agree with his failed grasp on reality.

Everyone is entitled to their own delusions, but nobody should be allowed to force their delusions onto others!
