A western Michigan school district has decided to lower their graduation requirements to help seniors who were affected by the pandemic.
M-Live reports that the Grand Rapids Public Schools made the announcement earlier this week to ensure the students affected have the best chance to graduate on time after the challenges and disruptions caused by the pandemic.
The district will temporarily amend its graduation credit requirements from 22 to 18, according to a vote Monday. That number still meets the state requirement.
Thanks to COVID, students at the schools were impacted by partial or complete remote learning for the entire 2020-2021 school year, and around 50 students were in danger of not graduating this year.
