South Bend’s Mayor calls for veto of permitless carry legislation

Following the state Senate’s passage of HB 1296, Mayor Mueller issued the following statement:

“Last night our state legislature chose extreme ideology over common sense and the safety of our community when it sent HB 1296 to the Governor’s desk,” said Mayor James Mueller.

“Permitless carry will make our state more dangerous and increase violence in South Bend. Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter shared this truth but was ignored.”

“The costs of eliminating the permit system, which helps get illegal guns and violent offenders off the street, are far greater than the benefits to law-abiding residents who wish to exercise their second amendment rights without having to seek a permit. I ask that Governor Holcomb stand with Superintendent Carter, our brave men and women in law enforcement, and the safety of all Hoosiers by vetoing this extreme, short-sighted legislation.”

2 comments there that should tip everyone off about the nazi state police and the fascist mayor.
1. State police said “truth” that it’ll be more dangerous. Please look back before the illegal permit was required and compare crime then vs since then.
2. Mayor says “..wish to exercise..” this here proves they have limited your 2A right without due process or cause and are continuously trying to suppress your rights.

Also the gangbangers, thieves, and muggers might get hurt. Need to protect their voter base. The safety of the average law abiding person does not matter.

The mayor of South Bend and his party of idiots would prefer that we were all disarmed and defenseless. Anything that moves us away from their goal is inherently “bad”, regardless of what the reality is.

What a maroon! His rationale: Our cities shooters (and we look like a little Chiraq) would be prevented from getting and using guns because they wouldn’t pass a background check to get a LICENSE TO CARRY (stop calling it a permit, lazy media).

Criminals don’t get licenses. Criminals would still need a background check to go buy a gun. They don’t do that either. The buy them on the street or steal them. That’s why they are called criminals.

Want to make a difference, mayor? Lock them up and keep them in jail.

Since when has our US Constitution been considered “extreme ideology “? I stopped reading after that. More irrational fear, nothing new to see here. None of the firearm data in America supports the ISP Super’s statements.

At last! Something the liberal mayor and I can agree on. (P.s.: Law abiding citizens can obtain handgun permits!)

They CAN, but they shouldn’t HAVE to.

Did you get a free speech permit to post your comment, including a review of all comments you have posted in the past? How about a license to remain silent? Maybe we need an application process to avoid having soldiers quartered in your home…

The state will not make money if it’s abolished, Oops! A criminal will carry anyway, why do they need a piece a paper that says they can’t? Sick in the head people as well as criminals, a piece of paper won’t matter…

The Mayor is WRONG! Criminals take advantage of 2A rights but law-abiding citizens have to go through a process of filling out paperwork, submitting it to the County police, pay to have our fingerprints taken, they then forward to the State Police, like WE are criminals, pay a fee (I had to when I got my permit) then wait for weeks for the State Police to complete a background check. Again, like we are criminals and only they can ALLOW us to exercise OUR RIGHTS as already given by the 2A. But how many criminals go through this before carrying? RIDICULOUS!
